Adult Literacy Project

From free book give-away days to scheduling adult private reading lessons with certified teachers for free, the Dennis Inn and Museum is dedicated to the goal that every adult in Jackson County has the opportunity to learn to read.

Digital History of Jackson Co.

By partnering with The Fred and Floria Tardy Foundation, the Dennis Inn is providing resources to produce a digital history of Jackson County (from its early days at Fort Blount to the county’s current status as a woodland/water paradise). This is expected to be a 5-year project and will be available to the public for free.

Hands-On Computer Museum

Our interactive computer museum lets visitors experience computing the way it was 50 years ago. Visitors can use a DOS operating system, see the inside of a hard drive and early computers. They can experience how early printers changed fonts with cartridges instead of drop-down menus. Designed for youth ages 8-18, this part of the museum is available only during education days at the Inn.

About
The Dennis Inn

The Inn is a non-profit organization named years before his death by the Jackson County inhabitant who it is created to honor— Ray Dennis. Mr. Dennis was the 9th child born to Henry Dennis, a sharecropper, and Willie Hopkins Dennis, his beloved wife.. After putting himself through (and becoming the first person in his family to graduate) college, Ray Dennis dedicated the next 40 years of his career to keeping kids in school in Jackson County. The Inn is a tribute, not only to this remarkable man, but to the families he created while making two happy marriages in this small, mid-century home. We hope you enjoy the love stories told through-out the home’s interior, and that it brings you a sense of love and grace when you visit.
